Outpatient Physiotherapy

Sancta Maria Hospital offers a comprehensive physiotherapy outpatient service.

Physiotherapy plays an important role in healing rehabilitation and pain relief following bone, muscle, nerve, ligament and joint injury.

The clinic is committed to professional and individual care in a relaxing and tranquil environment, providing a comprehensive assessment in order to make a clinical diagnosis and select an appropriate treatment, to be administered by our chartered physiotherapist, Andy Maggs.

What can we treat?

Physiotherapy can benefit all of the following conditions

- Sports and Soft tissue injuries - sprains, strains and bruising of the soft tissue e.g. Muscles, ligaments, cartilage, nerve and tendon problems.

- Neck and back disorders – Treating many conditions including prolapsed discs, joint degeneration, sciatica, lumbago, stiff and painful necks, whiplash, headache, leg and arm pain.

- Joint Problems – including arthritis, rheumatism injuries, pain/swelling and joint stiffness. All joints from the neck to toe disorders can all benefit from physiotherapy input.

- Postural Dysfunction – Helping correct postural and muscle imbalances.

- Orthopaedic Conditions – post operative outpatient physiotherapy programme is available for recuperation

How?

Following assessment, the physiotherapist will treat your condition using a variety of methods

- Manual therapy – May include manipulation, mobilisation, soft tissue techniques – deep tissue massage, massage, trigger point and muscle energy techniques.

- Rehabilitation – Exercise programmes – patient specific to the individual’s condition

o Muscle imbalance correction

o Stability ball work

o Gym and free weights advice

- Preventative advice

o Postural re-education

o Appropriate strengthening and stability programmes

- Electrotherapy

o Ultrasound

o Biofeedback

o Transcutaneous nerve stimulation (TENS)
